Waco Tribune Herald Play-Off Capsule: Cameron Yoe (9-4) vs. Rockdale (12-1) Last week: Cameron Yoe def. East Chambers 54-21; Rockdale def. Kirbyville 27-20 Regular season meeting: Rockdale 34-27 Players to watch: Yoe RB Traion Smith; Rockdale WR Pearce Loth and Christian Lara Key matchup: Rockdale QB Dylan McCartney/QB Tro’maine Miles vs. Yoe secondary Breakdown: Welcome to “The Battle of the Bell: Part 2” In a cross-county matchup rivalry, Rockdale grabbed “The Bell” in the first District 1-3A matchup by a mere seven points. The rematch sees the winner advance to the Texas State Semifinals. Rockdale does have some concern at the quarterback, with starter Dylan McCartney suffering a knee injury early in the game last week against Kirbyville. Backup Tro’maine Miles did a solid job of game management, rushing for a score and helping the Tigers gut out a gritty victory. Whoever is under center, the favorite targets will not change. The Tigers have two playmakers in Pearce Loth and Christian Lara. Both are fast, physical receivers that can change the vibe of a game quickly. “Those two guys can take games over,” said Rick Rhoades, Cameron Yoe head coach. “We have to do a great job covering and play good defense.” Cameron Yoe’s last loss came at the hands of Rockdale, eight games back and their fist district contest. The Yoemen will counter with a balanced offensive attack led by RB Traion Smith. The junior dashed for 174 yards and four scores in the win last week, giving him over 2,000 for the season. Rhoades know his team has to play better this time around, even if they are on a nice winning streak. “Rockdale is a very good team, as we saw earlier in the year,” Rhoades said. “We have to do a better job doing the things we do good. We have to take care of the ball and make some big plays.”
