Wada Rewards School Festival Athletes with Cash, Scholarship Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has rewarded athletes that won medals for the state in the last National School Sports Festival held in Port-Harcourt, River State with cash and scholarship. The Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Mrs Grace Elebiyo who revealed the gesture of Capt Idris Wada, praised the governor for matching his words with action and fulfilling his electoral promises to transform education and sports in the state. Mrs Elebiyo while advocating for the support of all and sundry for Governor Wada to achieve his laudable transformation agenda for the benefit of kogi state, appealed to all spirited individuals, corporate bodies, philanthropists and the general public to support the state government in moving sports and education forward. Governor Wada doled out a N70, 000 cash award for each gold medallist, dashed out N55, 000 for silver grabbers and bronze winners goes home with N40, 000 as the Wrestling chief coach, Philip Momoh and his assistant got a cash award of N50, 000 for share. The Kogi state governor also handed an automatic scholarship to the medals winning athletes in ensuring they complete their secondary school education. Kogi finished top of the Wrestling medals table hauling five gold, two silver and two bronze out of six gold, four silver and seven bronze won by the state. The Kogi Ministry of Education boss however promised the Chief Coach Philip Momoh a monthly provision of 50 tubers of yam, 20 litres of palm oil and 50kg bag of rice for the feeding of wrestlers. The cash award and scholarship given to school athletes and coaches by Governor Idris Wada will go into the history books as the gesture was the first in 22 years since the state was created.
