Wagner Ring of the Nibelung Grand Finale Gotterdammerung Twilight of the Gods Brunnhildes Immolation Brunnhilde is burning with righteous anger against the Gibichungs who have killed her beloved Siegfried. She gives back the Rhinegold ring to its rightful, original owners, the Rhinemaidens. She then denounces the human race (as represented by the Gibichungs) as corrupt and declares that even the gods will die. She sets fire to Siegfrieds funeral pyre, summons her magic horse Grane, rides the horse and leaps into the fire. The flames rise higher and higher and begin to consume everything, starting with the Hall of the Gibichungs who die. The entire world is consumed by fire, which even reaches the heavens and burns the palace of the gods Valhalla. The gods themselves die. Down below, the Rhinemaidens are the only ones left under the waters of the Rhine river, still clutching their prized golden ring.
