Waiorongmai, the long loop. A valiant attempt to "do" the valley - TopicsExpress

Waiorongmai, the long loop. A valiant attempt to "do" the valley in the hardest possible manor. (but I have another plan for another day) Low level track, water race, New Era, May Queen, Dog Kennel Flat, off track to Fern Junction and Buck Rock. High track and fence line to return to car park. 10 made the circuit in 5 1/2 hrs, I thought a very respectable time. Length 12.3 km, climb 869 metres,( about 80 metres short of the top of Te Aroha) total ascent 1131 metres. Lots of photos cause I liked them all. A hidden waterfall feeding into the Waiorongomai Stream The 2nd stream crossing Going up, the New Era incline, no more complaining about being cold Relics of the mining days Been there, done the May Queen. D.O.C. have been busy slinging bridges across the creeks D.O.C. at Do Kennel Flat waiting for the chopper to lift more materials into the Waipapa track The Waiorongomai Valley from above The mast from a different angle Spot the trampers, we are heading toward the left hill Above the tree line and catching the Waikato wind Purple , the flavour of the day, And the Domain Cafe made beaut coffee as always
