Wait wait wait -- if some of my higher up retail friends could - TopicsExpress

Wait wait wait -- if some of my higher up retail friends could clarify something for me that would be awesome. tl;dr: Are retail chains up to some shady crap for Boxing Day Sales? If the purpose of Boxing Day sales is so that stores can sell stock that they overstocked on pre-Christmas rush - particularly perishables like food - why do technology stores have Boxing Day discounts? More importantly; why are they running ads for their Boxing Day sales? How do they know what products they have overstocked on before Christmas Day with enough lead time for the advertising material to be produced (a weeks advance - I assume)? Do they intentionally overstock products, limit stock before Christmas, then release extra stock post-Christmas to capitalise on people wanting to save money on products they would otherwise never buy? I do know people tend to get more spendy when theyre not working.
