Wake up, wake up, one and all, its Travers Day at Saratoga! Next to KY Derby Day, this is my favorite day of the year. The Travers was first run during the Civil War--think about that for a second--and its the oldest race in America. They call it the Midsummer Derby, because, like the Derby, its only for 3-yr-olds, its on dirt, and its at the classic distance of 1 1/4 miles. As always, a terrific field showed up today, and, as usual, the Travers is supported by a swell cast of other major races, like the Kings Bishop, Ballerina, and Ballston Spa. Saratoga is the finest meet in the country, Travers Day is their centerpiece, and the Travers is their featured race. Dont miss out. Coverage starts at 3:30 cst on NBC.
