Waking up feeling like the tin man. Morning stiffness- many fibromyalgia sufferers complain that they are victims of morning stiffness. This stiffness is often long lasting and recurrent, and sometimes becomes a permanent symptom of fibromyalgia. Morning stiffness occurs in the muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments throughout the body. Appearing as •tightness in the muscles after you wake up in the morning •stiffness in hands, fingers, feet, toes •gelling, or tightness in the muscles after periods of rest (ie. long car rides, sitting or napping) •aching or throbbing pain, especially in the hands, arms, legs, and feet •inability to fully extend certain joints, limited range of motion •headaches, particularly tension headaches beginning at the base of the neck and extending over the head •stiffness in the head, back, and neck. Tips for coping: try self massage. Gently rubbing your own shoulders, neck, arms, and back first thing in the morning before you get out of bed might help loosen your muscles and make you feel more limber. Take a Warm Shower or Bath in morning and bedtime. Do this for at least 10 minutes. keep your bedroom temperature at a comfortable level — a room thats too cold will increase stiffness, and one thats too warm can cause muscle aches and increased pain. Be sure to get ample deep sleep so your body can repair and recharge. Try adding Melatonin (vitamin) it helps you sleep and drink lots of filtered or purified water. Try practicing yoga or Thai chi. How bad are your morning symptoms? Have a low pain high energy day. Simone
