Walk Held to Remember Springfield Woman Killed in Feb. Domestic Violence Incident July 5th, 2013 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Friday was a day to remember a victim of domestic violence, killed earlier this year. Julie Treadwell was killed in a domestic incident back in February and today, her family and friends walked from the police department to City Hall to keep her memory alive. Family and friends of Julie treadwell come together on what would have been her 27th birthday. Treadwell was killed in February by Anthony Brown, the father of her children, who Treadwell had recently gotten a restraining order against. Julie’s mother, Betsy Sanchez, is now looking after the children she left behind “I’m plowing to get through every day to get her boys every morning to go to school…just to know I’m doing something. I’m not supposed to be doing. She should be here taking care of her own children,” says Sanchez. The walk for Julie comes just a day after 19-year-old Tyshiana Atkins was shot and killed in what police call a domestic incident Sanchez adds, “Another girl died over domestic violence yesterday. That can’t keep happening. We can’t keep having people die over relationships that went wrong.” Those who knew Julie Treadwell say she was a ray of light for all that were in her life “She was so young. She was a great person. She had 3 beautiful children. She was just a ball of life…everything that she did,” adds Holly Geane. Emmalinda Rodriguez explains, “She was happy, always smiling no matter what she was going through. She always had a smile on her face. We miss her dearly..dearly.” Julie’s mother says the system failed her and her family, noting that her killer was given too many chances. Sanchez says, “He was openly in his anger management classes, expressing that no man will be around his children as long as he lives. Why didn’t the anger management facilitator report that to the courts?” But today was all about feeling the presence of the daughter, mother and friend they miss so much “We know she is looking down on us and smiling and knows we will never forget her.” There will be a memorial service for Treadwell tonight at The Black Pearl in Springfield at 6:00 p.m.
