Walk Humbly Daryle Brown Scripture: Micah 6:8 8He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. (KJV) 8But hes already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. Its quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and dont take yourself too seriously — take God seriously. (MSG) I love this scripture. I remember, a few years or so ago, when at a ministry retreat one of the exercises required us to interview another ministry partner, and one of the questions was, What is your favorite scripture?. I struggled to answer that question then. In Micah 6:8 God asks that we do justly, and to love mercy, two wonderful attributes for man or woman to embrace. Just as important however is that we walk humbly with thy God. Or as the Message interprets, dont take yourself too seriously. This last part, for me, means that even while you are doing right, when you are obeying Gods instructions, you should be certain to give God the glory. Our good deeds mean so much more when we maintain our personal humility. What a powerful statement when a man or woman who has done much for the benefit of society, gives credit to the Creator, instead of themselves. When we sincerely tell the world that it is our faith in God, our trust and love for our Savior, that makes us do what we do, and not our own weak flesh. How much more powerful a message when people see Jesus working in our world, through the efforts of his people, hiding behind the cross so that Jesus is what they see. My favorite scripture is Micah 6:8. For me it makes all the difference in how I see the world and the battles before us. Prayer: My God, You are worthy to be praised. I know that I have faults and failings that make me an unfit vessel to carry on Your work, and I thank You for using me anyway. Please keep me focused on the work You have for me, to do justice and to love mercy, and keep me humble in my endeavors in Your name. Amen. Thought for the Day: Give God the glory for it all.
