Walk down any street in Kolkata and you will likely find a woman selling oranges out of a wicker basket, a man stood beside freshly made samosas or the streets themselves often being lined by fresh produce; fruit, vegetables and more. Sweet shops coat the otherwise polluted air with sweetness and the small restaurants are busy and vibrant. Kolkata is not so rich in terms of tourist attractions, although its temples, monuments and museums are still a draw, but its richness is instead to be found on the streets. For me, the main attraction of being in Kolkata is standing on the pavement and watching it motion around me, to better understand its many cultures and sample all the familiar and unfamiliar treats it has to offer.
