Walk in the Wild was a huge success. It was a cool, sunny day for a walk around Discovery Centers 2-1/2 mile trail circling Statehouse Lake. This was followed with a presentation by John Bates, our own Northwoods naturalist/author and friend. 40 people enjoyed his casual style, explaining winter adaptation for Northwoods plants and animals. Afterwards we pulled raffle tickets for 15 awesome donated items, had hot apple cider and yummy treats. Thank you goes out to all who helped in so many ways....to Friends of Wild Instincts who organized this event, to Discovery Center for the use of their beautiful facilities, to John Bates for his presentation and donation of 20 Graced by the Seasons: Fall and Winter in the Northwoods book, to those who attended or gave donations, and to those who sold and purchased eagle raffle tickets. The winner of the eagle release raffle is a gentleman with a seasonal residence in Winchester, Dean Wightman. Between the eagle release raffle and the walk over $5000 was raised for Wild Instincts. Thanks to Carol Hartman, Event Coordinator for making this happen.
