Walking Dead star, singer-songwriter Emily Kinney talks about upcoming N.J. epilespy awareness concert EWING, NEW JERSEY - When singer-songwriter Emily Kinney was asked to perform in a show in Ewing that will tie music to epilepsy awareness, the opportunity to spread the word hit home. The 29-year-old Nebraska native, who also stars as Beth Greene on AMCs hit zombie thriller The Walking Dead, has a relative who suffers the brain disorder, and one of the ways to make sense of this issue is to raise awareness, she told The Times of Trenton in a telephone interview Wednesday. Itll be great to know your performance is a way to help out other organizations and also bring more awareness to medical issues and diseases, Kinney said. I loved that aspect as well. The concert scheduled for Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Ewing is part of Pennington resident Eric Millers ongoing Candlelight Concert series to promote epilepsy awareness. Miller started the series after his wife Carolina died in 2011 of an epilepsy attack. Its pretty inspiring to me that hes been able to do that and taken what was probably so painful and difficult and ease the pain in someone elses life, Kinney said. Im looking forward to a night in her honor. Miller, a Walking Dead fanatic, hasnt met Kinney yet, but got her on board with the show through her music agency. He said many musicians he partners with have personal connections to epilepsy. You never know whos affected by it, Miller said Wednesday. The biggest thing is the benefit of reaching new people. That is the purpose, to reach a broader audience, so youre not preaching to the same choir all the time.
