Walking the Dog Alone Im not gonna lie. Walking my dog this summer has been pretty sad. Not for Coco of course shes having a blast. But summer nights have been a lot more lonely this year. Last year this time all my neighbors were outside enjoying getting to know each other and talking for hours. Going out was great because you got to hear about each others days and just enjoy each others company. But all that ended over the winter when there was a dust up. People made bad choices and then mad at each other and got proud. So now everyone hides in their houses. If you happen to catch someone outside theyll tell you how happy they are and, of course, how busy they are. But its all a joke. Whats frustrating is no one seems to care that I lost a lot of people who really mattered to me. Sucks for me I suppose. Not their problem. The thing is, they matter. They all matter. Theyre really important. Theyre really special. Every one of them. Theyre really good and neat and cool. And worth knowing! And its all gone . . . over nothing. So now I walk by their condos each night, usually twice a night, and I think about them. Pray for them. And mostly just miss them. In the grand scheme of things no one is shooting down planes or launching rockets at each other on Greenway Court. But people are working fairly hard to make sure they fill their lives with anything but each other. Its a different form of killing, more insidious, but no less lethal. Im pretty sure I cant fix it. But Ill be out there. You can come too if you want. Yesterdays gone. Who cares about that anyway? Its over. But weve got tonight.
