Walking through The Word A Fully-Committed God 1 Kings 18:38 “Immediately the fire of God fell and burned up the offering, the wood, the stones, the dirt, and even the water in the trench” 1 Kings 18:38 (MSG). This is the culmination of the story about the battle between the four hundred prophets of Baal and the prophet of the one true God—Elijah. After the prophets of Baal were unable to raise any reaction from there so-called god, Elijah prayed that God would show His mighty hand and reveal Himself, once again, to Israel. I love this verse for the same reason that I love so many others, because it shows us another characteristic of God; it reveals a God Who isn’t halfhearted when it comes to His promises, a God Who doesn’t do the bear minimum needed to get by, a God who doesn’t just tiptoe into our lives and sweep out a small corner to live in; no, this is a God Who doesn’t just burn up the offering, He burns up the wood, the stones, the dirt, and even the water in the trench. This is a fully-committed God, a God Who shows Himself to be a God of extravagant abundant. And, today, it’s this same God Who asks to be the center of our lives, Who tells us, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” Who promises, “I have plans for you.” This is the kind of God Who is going to not only clean up our lives, but Whose also going to replace our hearts of stone and give us new, abundant lives; in Him, we will die to our old lives of sin and become new creations. This is a God Who wants to give us a life filled with not only the necessities, but with extravagant abundance! This is the kind of God we serve! Randy & Trena Reed Walking through The Word
