Walking through school today, Paige pointed out this poem on the wall that her sister Kate (who turns 9 tomorrow) wrote. I took a picture of it but its so long I transcribed it--misspellings and all. I think theres something in here for everyone. I Am From I am from the yellowed pages of a good book From dusty bookcases filled with books with soft leather spines and long, soft brushstrokes on a blank canvas I am from the bright white bricks and soft green grasses Kindness, warmth A cozy warm fire and the soft smell of cinnamon I am from the cheerful bright poppies that seem to glow The tall strong Redwood trees whose branches stretch out like welcoming arms The ruff brown bark, and soft rosey petals I am from hot cocoa and the movie Elf Soft brown eyes with dancing freckles From Kristen and Mark I am from the unbuckling before the car stops From never give up and do your very, very best I am from lighting a bright, copper menorah at Christmastime I am from a cancerous tumor in my Grandma, Vicky Bruno From soft, squishy sourdough bread, and ketchup covered galumpky From the time a giraffe tried to eat my dads hair The love of music contained inside my dad My dads book still clicking through the printers I am from LOVE
