Walter Carlisle Guy, Jr Obituary Walter Carlisle Guy, Jr., 76, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014. He was born February 10, 1938, in Millageville, Georgia and was the eldest son of the late Walter Carlisle Guy, Sr and Elizabeth Cooper Guy. He was a graduate of Aiken High School (Class of 1956), a graduate of Wofford College (Class of 1961) with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was the manager of the tennis team and received a masters of education degree from the University of South Carolina in 1975. After graduation from Wofford, he taught school for one year in Spartanburg SC and then came home to Aiken to continue his teaching career at Minnie B Kennedy School for 31 years, where he taught math and science and coached football and golf. He served on Aiken County Council District 8 for four years receiving an outstanding service to Aiken County award. He was a former member of the Aiken Jaycees, Sertoma International receiving the Centurion Award, the Aiken CB Association and North Augusta Amateur Radio Club. He was a past member of the Rag Chewer’s Club with Ham radio and received a certificate of proficiency (15 words per minute) for morse code with the American Radio Relay League. He volunteered his time with the Acts program in Aiken and teaching seniors how to operate a computer. . Walter was a member of St John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken and a member of Houndslake Country Club where he was an avid golfer and card player. He loved golf and played as often as he could. He was a generous, kind and giving man. Survivors include a loving partner, Carole Evans Smith of Aiken SC, his brothers, Daniel Cooper Guy (Jane) of Saluda SC and Ira Brinson Guy (Loretta) of Athens GA, a nephew, Daniel Boyce Guy (Carlene) of Charleston SC, a niece Elizabeth Clair Guy (Matt McGee) of Milledgeville GA; and a great nephew and niece, Jordan and Kaylani Guy of California.. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Prestridge Guy and a nephew, Walter Crane Guy. A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, March 30, 2014 at St John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken SC at 3:00 pm with visitation after the service. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to St John’s United Methodist Church, PO Box 809, Aiken SC 29802 or to a charity of one’s choice.
