Walter Dandy unlike Cushing dedicated whole of his life to Johns - TopicsExpress

Walter Dandy unlike Cushing dedicated whole of his life to Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, till his death at age of 60 years in 1946 CE. Not very fond of attending conferences he politely refused an invitation from Cushing to be a part of deliberations. Gilbert Horrax had to defend Dandy many times from what Cushing used to say about Dandy. Horrax used to argue and say that fact is that Dandy is far ahead of anyone of us and none of us can match his results. A case to emphasise this point is the total extirpation of Acoustic tumours advocated by Dandy, a fact which annoyed Cushing no end, because in his opinion such recommendation will lead to very high mortality. Even other neurosurgeons like Frazier were not great friends of Dandy. In one of clinical meetings at Johns Hopkins a fellow doctor of other department kept on insisting about his difference of opinion from what Dandy was saying, prompting Dandy to say something like this A jackal will always be at the feet of a lion. That ended the discussion for the day.
