Wampa VS Thernbee tl;dr: A predator two and a half meters tall, sometimes weighing two hundred kilograms or more, with razor-sharp teeth and claws VS A sadistic creature with psychic powers that could eat a ysalamir as it was emitting a Force bubble. The fourth match of the first round in the Mostly-famous Star Wars creatures tournament Wampa ice creatures were carnivorous predatory reptomammals indigenous to the remote Outer Rim Territories ice planet Hoth. The bipedal beasts stood over two meters in height with shaggy white fur constantly stained by the blood and guts of slaughtered prey. Wampas were armed with jagged yellow teeth and deadly claws. Primarily solitary hunters, wampas occasionally hunted in packs, preferring to ambush their prey from the camouflage of Hoths snow banks and blizzards. Stunned victims were carried back to the creatures lairs, typically large ice caves, where the wampas ate at their leisure. Of all the Wampas one stands out: Unkajo. An extremely large wampa that had been altered in size through genetic engineering. Unkajo was a result of genetic experimentation by the Nightsister Kyrisa, who had crashed on Hoth after being exiled from Dathomir by Clan Mother Gethzerion. Kyrisa had mastered the power of Animal friendship and could exert and maintain control over large groups of beasts during the extended periods of time and over great distance. Around 2 ABY, several parties came to Hoth looking for Kyrisa, including a group of ISB agents sent by Blackhole. Unkajo and several smaller common wampas attacked the Imperials during their planning session, forcing them to defend themselves against the vicious animals. After the smaller wampas were dealt with, all efforts were concentrated on taking down the giant Unkajo. Hamstringing the huge wampa limited the range of its deadly claw swipes, and eventually it tired enough that one soldier could deliver a finishing blow. Unkajo however, had survived, and was present in the Wampa Valley near Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth. The Thernbee was a large, white-haired, semi-sentient creature with psychic powers. Thernbees communicated in psychic visions. They lived in the mountains of Almania. Its hair fell out constantly leaving their coats patchy, and exposing pink skin. They were a playful species, sometimes toying sadistically with its prey before ultimately killing it. Its saliva was also an anesthetic that numbed its victims senses. They were omnivorous and ate small animals, plants, and fruits. Thernbees were featured in The New Rebellion, a novel by Kristine Rusch, published in 1996. The novel takes place in 17 ABY, shortly after the Black Fleet Crisis. Where the Dark Jedi Kueller set in motion a plan to bring down the New Republic and the new generation of Jedi. Kueller owned a few of these creatures (did I mention the one of them ate a ysalamir as it was emitting a Force bubble?). Kueller also put Luke Skywalker in a cage with a thernbee. Ironically, the thernbee actually helped Luke with the injuries he had suffered when his X-Wing exploded, using the anesthetic it naturally produced in its saliva. The thernbee communicated with Luke using its psychic powers devising a way to escape. You can check tournament status here: challonge/darthbanetournament01
