Wanda Drennen Bosso and Peggy Drennen Peacock have already posted about my mom being in the hospital in Gulf Breeze. I wish I had the same confidence in her Dr. that Wanda has. Remember Wanda said she has been her Dr. for almost 25 years and we know the number of times we have almost lost her. Diarrhea for almost 4 months, in my mind, is borderline negligence. We had my mom staying with us over the Christmas break and when we got her she was really sick and couldnt get out of the bed. She takes a butt load of medicine and so does Wanda and I think that some of the medicine is the problem; prescribing medicine upon medicine. My wife, Cathy, is an RN and we looked at the amount of medicine and the side effects and took her off of all but the absolutely necessary medicine. Of course that didnt make the Dr. happy that we would stop some of the medicine that had been prescribed as we were not Drs and did not know the whole story. What I do know is that she got better! The diarrhea had lessened, her appetite had returned, and she was able to stay up during the day and even walk down the hallway without her walker. Wanda admitted that Momma had gotten back into her loratab and had even added them back to her pill box. Wanda is doing everything she can, but I know she is overloaded. I am not complaining as she is giving my mom the care I cant right now. I do however, question a Dr that will let a woman who is 85, and had this illness this long, and not have put her in the hospital sooner to find out what is going on. From what I hear, half the time mom sees a nurse practitioner instead of the Dr. Too many Dr today are treating the symptoms instead of treating the patient. Mom has several procedures planned starting in the morning. They asked her if anything goes wrong does she want them to resuscitate or just let her go and she said just let me go, I am ready. I will not second guess her decision, but I did try to explain the difference between resuscitate and life-support. I am not ready to let my momma go, but if she does, I know for SURE she is going to a better place. I have a little over a year till I can retire and I would so love to be able to Get well momma, I am praying for your healthful recovery.spend more quality time with her.
