Wanda Samuel, Wilson County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman, said the grant will be used to update the interior of the front lobby to make it more friendly for the public. The entire lobby area will be painted, and there will be an upgrade to the entrance. Samuel said the county has been making ongoing improvements in the animal housing area since the summer. Wilson County Maintenance Services employees have done a number of jobs already, according to Ron Hunt, assistant county manager. Drains have been installed for outside kennels, vents have been covered in dog kennels, and ceiling tiles have been replaced throughout the building. Drop ceilings were also installed in the cat room and bite room. The county is in the process of repairing outside wood that has rotted and will then paint it, Hunt said. And in coming months, the kennels will be painted and new fencing will be added in the kennel areas.
