Wang Yi urges caution in S. China Sea dispute Chinese #Foreign #Minister #Wang Yi and U.S. #Secretary of State John Kerry discussed South #China Sea tensions and other issues in a recent phone call. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that Wang Yi urged Kerry to speak and act cautiously on the issue. Tensions escalated last week when Vietnam dispatched six vessels to ram into Chinese government ships soon after the arrival of a Chinese oilrig. From May 3 to 7, 36 Vietnamese vessels, including armed ships, reportedly rammed Chinese vessels more than 170 times. Vietnam also placed numerous fishing nets and large obstacles in the water, posing threats to navigation. Xinhua had accused Vietnam of “trying to sabotage Chinas oil exploration,” and use the incident to “tarnish the image of China in the Southeast Asian community and the world at large.” On his call with Secretary Kerry, Wang Yi also covered issues concerning the Korean Peninsula. The Foreign Minister once again emphasized China’s commitment to the denuclearization of the peninsula, and stressed that all issues should be solved through dialogue. https://youtube/watch?v=280uQ98QLZw
