Wani cautious people against elements inimical to peace POONCH, SEPTEMBER 19: Minister for Roads & Buildings and Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Abdul Majid Wani, has cautioned the people against the nefarious designs of elements inimical to Peace The Minister said this while addressing local legislators, civil society members, besides civil and police administration functionaries at Rajouri and Poonch during his two day tour of the twin border districts. Minister of State for Health Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan and Legislators, Mr. Aijaz Jan, Mr. Jehangir Hussain Mir and Dr. Shehnaz Ganai were also present in the meeting. Asserting that people of Jammu and Kashmir have always followed secular ethos, the Minister said that communal harmony and amity is the hallmark of the society here. Mr. Wani hailed the members of civil society for maintaining and upholding peace and communal harmony in their areas and highlighted the historical importance of the two border districts. He said despite facing the brunt of man-made and natural calamities the people here faced all these challenges unitedly. The Minister appealed the civil society members to work for strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and amity, adding that peace and harmony are prerequisite for development of the country and state as well. He also paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificing their lives for the cause of humanity and upholding the unity and integrity of the country and the state. The Minister cautioned people against the nefarious designs of divisive forces and said that they were hell bent to divide the society on regional and religious lines for their petty interests. However, he said the government would not allow these elements to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the state. Referring to scenic beauty and picturesque spots in the area, Mr. Wani said that the twin districts have ample tourism potential and efforts are on to exploit the same to benefit the people. He said that after identification of potential spots, the two districts would be brought on tourism map. Mr. Wani assured that he would personally advocate the issues of the two districts in the State Cabinet for early settlement. The legislators also spoke on the occasion and raised points of public importance during the meeting.
