Waning Philosophical again, I had this early morning Thanksgiving - TopicsExpress

Waning Philosophical again, I had this early morning Thanksgiving conversation with my old friend Roy. Old, Old friend Roy. He had all these Indian grindstones, pestle and mortar stones lining the rail road ties in his raised bed garden. A testament to a life in the woods as a Timber Man. His wife was calling down the squirrels she raised from the high pines. And we were also talking about the grind stones and projectile points. I asked what did they grind, nuts? He said corn. And that is why the quality of points began to go way down. You see the older ones were finely crafted, during the archaic period. Those blades had to kill. Their life depended upon it. Then with agricultural advances and trade from white man, guns etc. the quality wasnt so critical. And still the fields are littered with roughly knapped stuff, you dont even care to pick up and keep. As time progressed quality you might expect would increase.. And I thought of furniture, and families. When you can replace them easily, why bother with quality. When its all you have, your life depends upon it, and there are no other options, you just have to make do and continue to try and build them better.
