Wanna be on a team? ‘Tis the season of team organizing. With nationals over, this is the time that teams organize or re-organize. There will be people leaving teams, people joining teams, teams completely dissolving, and new teams being born. Yes, you probably have enough experience to be on a rookie team. I had somewhere between 75-125 jumps when I joined my first team. It was a player-coached team with one very experienced competitor (Roland Hicks), and three of us noobs. I learned a tremendous amount … even though we three noobs were beyond bad in the beginning. I am not an expert on what you need to consider if you have the opportunity to join a team. However, I will share one thing that I have seen be fairly universal: The hard part occurs at zero AGL! Yep, the people part… getting along with your teammates is often the most challenging and most disruptive when it goes wrong. With any luck, I can provoke some experienced competitors to add their suggestions for noobs who are thinking of building or joining a team. Perhaps we can get contributions from Michael Hotchkiss, Zach Lewis, Thad Parker, Amanda Lampton, Ron Hill, David Hickey, Scott Latinis, and Scott Levy. Doorrr!!!
