Want A Job The Easy Way? Register Your Skills - DOLE Bicol Legazpi City- Everybody wants a job and wants it fast! Well, with the coming of the 5th wave of the National Skills Registry System (NSRS) this October, DOLE-Bicol may just have a ready remedy for this. “It (NSRS) will give an edge to applicants, employers and even the Barangay itself. Imagine if a Barangay has a ready list of skills of its constituents and a multi-national company will put up a business in that Barangay. It’ll be an automatic hiring.” DOLE Bicol asst. reg. dir. Atty. Karina Perida-Trayvilla said. The National Skills Registry System (NSRS) is DOLE’s Free Barangay based employment facilitation program. The NSRS idea is, with the help of Barangay officials, to record all “existing and available” skills in the Barangay to create a roster of active labor supply for the possibility of a fast and hi-tech job placement thru the enhanced Phil-JobNet. Here in Bicol, the NSRS had been running for almost 3-years and the 5th and final wave of the program is projected to be implemented come October. DOLE Bicol then advices Bicolanos especially Barangay officials, to help in the registration of ‘skills’ in the NSRS. “Registration of skills will make it easier to land a job. We strongly advise Bicolanos to register now” ARD Trayvilla added. This advice was made after the 2-day NSRS Orientation held last 11-12 September at Jenifer’s Garden Hotel here. The orientation, dubbed as “Lessons Learned”, was attended by NSRS focal persons and DOLE Provincial Heads. Its aim was to strategize the implementation of the 5th and final wave of the NSRS program in the region after carefully analyzing the issues and concerns encountered on its past 4-implementations. “The NSRS Program had been running for years but it seems that people doesn’t really understand its importance. We are looking for ways to improve its implementation and make it more appealing this time,” ARD Trayvilla explained. DOLE Bicol believed that the NSRS is a major tool in the government’s effort to combat unemployment and poverty by either bridging job seekers to formal employment or providing livelihood assistance to the NSRS “registered skilled” Barangay constituents. In the past years, DOLE Bicol has implemented SRS to a total of 1,772 Barangays from 49 LGUs with the following breakdown per province: Albay-9 LGUs; Cam. Sur-7 LGUs, Cam. Norte-10 LGUs, Sorsogon -9 LGUs, Catanduanes - 7 LGUs and Masbate -7LGUs. For the 5th wave, DOLE Bicol will implement the NSRS in 823 Barangays or 30 LGUs in the 6 provinces of the region. “The skills registry will also be one of our (DOLE) basis in giving livelihood funding to the Barangay or LGU” ARD TRayvilla concluded. – fin.
