Want a REALLY meaningful volunteer opportunity? We are looking for someone to tutor in writing English. The person who needs to learn is deaf and her first language is American Sign and her second language is Spanish. But she is a college grad and very smart. The thing is, they let her graduate college with very poor writing skills -- which is a total barrier to her ability to get a job. If you want to REALLY enable someone to have a life of independence -- a smart, good young person -- and you can explain English writing, please let me know. Her English understanding is perfect. We have software that when you speak to her it will put your words in text real time for her to read and she can text back. Also, she has a special phone that she can use where when you speak a video screen shows her your words in sign language and she can sign and the person on the video phone will speak. This is a free service from the FCC. Ideally it would be during the day in Bethesda, but she can be very flexible for the right help. THANKS!
