Want the truth or distraction? Under Schedule Two of the mining effluent regulations, lakes can be redefined as “tailings impoundment areas.” Imperial Metals is now using the once pristine Black Lake as a Tailings Impoundment Area. Red Chris = 183 million tons of toxic tailings and 307 million tons of waste rock, which would likely need to be treated for acid mine drainage in perpetuity, aka FOREVER. Here these people go badmouthing me again with lies and evidence that blows up in their faces upon analysis. Firstly, I never said they took a cash payment, though this letter does not prove that they did not and I do not believe that they didnt. What I said was that they get paid by having most of the members of their community working in these mines and doing very well for themselves, tainting their judgement and ability to act in defiance of Imperial Metals. This document shows that they have agreed to the mining at Red Chris and will have given approval for the whole mine life of the Red Chris mine, to use their exact words, as long as they get to have a third party see that it is done in a way that will ensure the safety and stability of the tailings - NOT TO STOP THE MINE. This simply confirms again what I have said - they are in support of the mine. They are bargaining for a better work situation for their workers, aka higher wages, etc. and to have the gold mined sustainably. Mining is, by definition, not sustainable. This contract says very clearly that, if the meaningless conditions they ask are met, then they WILL ALLOW the mine to continue according to its plan. They are only asking to have the ability to do tests and prepare reports - nothing about trying to stop these lakes from becoming tailings, as it is already too late. The plan they allowed to go ahead is already in place - it is already too late for these lakes. No matter what they say or what they try to distract you with, this once pristine lake, Black Lake, is already gone - gone forever. This is the plan they have approved, so understand their distraction: The proposed Red Chris mine poses a high level of risk to water quality and fish habitat, and threatens to devastate wildlife habitat on Todagin Mountain, a sweeping high country plateau above the headwaters lake chain of the Iskut River. The plateau is home to the largest lambing herd of Stone’s sheep in the world, as well as wolves, grizzlies, caribou, black bears, wolverines, and golden eagles. The wildlife habitat at the proposed mine site is contiguous with Todagin South Slope Park, which was designated as a Class A provincial park in 2001 to protect the Stone’s sheep critical wintering and lambing habitat. Wolverine, fisher and grizzly bear are blue-listed species in Todagin Park. Mountain goats are found on the precipitous slopes and cliffs, while lower slopes provide high quality moose habitat. The proposed mine would erode conservation gains made by the establishment of the park. Draining the south side of Todagin plateau is a Y-shaped valley containing Black Lake, Todagin Lake and Kluea Lake, a spawning ground for rainbow trout, which flows downstream into the Iskut River. Under the Fisheries Act of Canada, it’s illegal to put harmful substances into fish-bearing waters. However, under Schedule Two of the mining effluent regulations, lakes can be redefined as “tailings impoundment areas.” Imperial Metals proposes to use Black Lake as a Tailings Impoundment Area, blocking 80% of the stream flow to Todagin and Kluea Lake, and creating long-term contamination concerns. Over the life of the mine, Red Chris could leave behind 183 million tons of toxic tailings and 307 million tons of waste rock, which would likely need to be treated for acid mine drainage in perpetuity. I hate to have to post this, but they do not seem to understand. They cant keep calling it a blockade, because people think that it is a blockade of the mine in hopes of stopping the mine. This was never that, nor can they ever go back on that now. As long as their third party show that the tailings are secure, then they can never do anything to stop the mine during its life. They have agreed to that. There is nothing more that needs to be said. These facts can no longer be disputed, only spun, as you see in the attachment to this photo. This is a sell out, Klabona Keepers.
