Want to have a super awkward experience? Be sitting at the YS reference desk when a mom comes in after a long day at work to discover that her 8th grade daughter, who has been here for 7.5 hours, has done almost NO homework. And then enjoy them standing in right in front of your desk as the mom begins to ream her daughter out. And THEN, after sending her back to the table to do her homework, begins to give YOU the angry speech that has been going through her head all evening as if YOU are the daughter - oh, and apparently the teacher she is also mad at - I got THAT speech too. And you get to nod and say yeah and mm hmm and feel like you are in trouble even though you have nothing to do with it. However, if youre lucky like I was, it will be your co-workers turn to do a shift on the desk and you will get to very quickly pack up your basket and whisper something like, You know, I would stay and help, but I REALLY have to go to the bathroom. and run as fast as you can to the back office. (in all fairness, I actually really DID have to go to bathroom super bad!) Oy vay!
