I was just told today by a man well known for his knowledge of local history that the first land league meetings took place in Louth, and one of the first evictions they attended happened not less than 5km from my home. One of the main men in the Land League in Louth at the time was called Reverend Markey and it was he who organised resistance to and spoke at that eviction at which there were over 300 militia and British army, but more land league members....
