Want to help provide young people with the skills and opportunities that will equip them to excel academically and secure their future success as productive, independent, and contributing members of society? Rogers Raising the Grade is looking for mentors 19 years of age and older to work with enrolled youth in grades 7-12. Rogers Raising the Grade is an interactive after-school program within the Boys & Girls Club of Airdrie that allows youth to explore interests, receive homework support, connect with mentors/tutors, interact with peers, increase their digital literacy and plan for post-secondary education. Requirements, Skills and Qualifications: • Experience working with youth, grades 7-12 in a tutoring or academic environment • Digital literacy skills including web design, WordPress, internet use, email communication, Microsoft Office • Ability to build meaningful and supportive relationships with participants Key Responsibilities: • Work with assigned participants on a weekly, scheduled basis • Build meaningful and supportive relationships with participants • Guide participants through planned, core RRTG activities on website (e-learning modules, creating a Personal Development Plan and e-portfolios, displaying achievements and progress etc.) • Assist participants with homework and tutoring • Navigate the RRTG website to find relevant educational resources • Encourage and coach participants to achieve their goals • Help youth problem solve and overcome barriers to achieving their goals • Mentors may also develop and facilitate small group activities focused on technology, homework or careers • Commit to 2 hours per week per academic term This program runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30 pm. Successful applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check and Children’s Intervention Record Check.
