Want to learn more about the natural processes that provide our water supply? Waipuni Kahalu‘u is an online model of the Kahalu‘u (Hawai‘i Island) watershed that teaches users about the system of water exchanges among climate, weather, vegetation, and land use. The site demonstrates how changes in climate and land use may affect freshwater systems, and a rich atlas and other resources provide the opportunity to explore the culture, history, language, and ecosystem of Hawai‘i through Native Hawaiian landscape concepts and Western science environmental models. Waipuni Kahalu‘u is a collaboration between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Edith Kanakaole Foundation, Watershed Professionals Network, Redlands Institute, and The Kohala Center.
