Want to say how disgusted My volunteers and I are with the Pen & memorial Banfield while at adoptions yesterday at about 2 pm a family brought in a tiny senior yorkie that was in severe heat stroke. Banfield turned them away (Dr Pritner on duty ) told her receptionist to say they didnt have time to see the dog as they only had one vet on staff. There where no other clients at the clinic at the time that we could see I am sure they had animals in the back but why the heck do you have listed you take emergencies on your sign if you dont. But this dog was in a severe state and needed attention or to be wet down at least ASAP. They instructed them to go to the ER on Memorial Rd. One of our volunteers was heated and confronted the vet within 10 minutes after the family left.. Funny how the vet had almost 10 minutes to come out and defend her actions, even stated that it wasnt a great clinic up the road that she sent them to but yet she didnt have time to offer the animal some critical support. So very sad and such a failure of a DVM. The family stated they did leave the dog in the car with the car locked and running but the AC button was bump off some how so the cold air stopped blowing. The yorkie was at least 8yrs old or so.. They where devastated and lost. I advised them to wet down her body in the bathroom but they where not thinking well. So I did it for them with them there I put her body under the bathroom facet and wet her whole body they had a towel for her I went into the break room and found a bag of ice and but it in a bag and had them lay her on it with the towel while they took her to the next clinic and advised them to go to Neel for the best treatment.. I knew due to them getting turn away at Banfield critical time was going to be lost and she needed something to start dropping the temp down. I wish I knew the outcome of the little girl.
