Want to spend some time in the mind of collectivist progressives? (who would, but,...) Here you go. My healthcare column got picked up & ran in our local paper, the Colorado Springs Gazette (print & e-version), on Friday. Surf some of the comments and draw your own conclusions: gazette/guest-column-the-real-problem-with-health-care-as-entitlement/article/1518057 These people believe that (free) healthcare is a RIGHT. Forget life, love, pursuit of happiness, its a right to have someone else paying for your medical needs. Which, ok, if you want to believe that fine; we disagree. But they miss the entire point of the piece, which is at its core economic. That free, or cheap, for everyone is an unsustainable economic model. If no one is paying for it, then who is paying for it? The next logical extension of this line of belief of course is - if we have a RIGHT to the govt providing us free healthcare, what else do we have a RIGHT to? Do we have a right to reliable transportation? If so, what about insuring those cars & putting gas in them? Should that also be provided and if so, who pays for it? Ive neither the time nor desire to get into such discussions with these people - if you do, have at it. Oh, and of course, youll notice the myriad personal attacks. You cant just disagree with these people on the basis of logic and facts, as is almost always the case with hardcore progressives, If you dont believe what I believe, then youre an idiot.
