Wanted: Nominees for the Boccia Australia Board. Please forward through your networks. The past few years have seen significant growth in participation for boccia and, with the change in International Governance to BISFed on 1/1/2013, Boccia Australia is on its’ way to being officially recognised by the Australian Sports Commission as the National Sporting Organisation for Boccia within Australia. The Board is charged with the responsibility of providing strategic direction for BA and also helping to enhance and promote the sport within the country. As such, members of the Board will be expected to develop and scrutinise plans in a constructive way and guide the development of the organisation and the sport in the future. This is an opportunity to shape the development of a fast-moving organisation and really have an impact on society. It is expected the Board members will uphold the highest standards of professionalism and quality and be able to remain impartial and make decisions based on what is in the best interest of all members (not just their particular state/region/area of interest). Current Board Members / Intending to stand at AGM 26/3/2015 / Appointed to the Board Robert Marshall (QLD) President- /Yes/ 30/04/2012 Jean-Paul LaFontaine (QLD) Vice President- /Yes/ 12/05/2014 Jocelyn Powell (WA) Treasurer- /Yes/ 29/04/2013 Caroline Daley (NSW) Secretary /Yes/ 30/04/2012 Anita Sousa (WA) Athletes Representative- / No / 29/04/2013 Boccia Australia Governance In order to comply with the governance requirements of the Australian Sports Commission (as well as NSW Fair Trading, ASIC and the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission) the following changes are proposed for Boccia Australia: • New, compliant constitution. This will go to a Special Resolution motion at the AGM 26/3/2015. The draft of the constitution is currently with Rankin Ellison Solicitors and will be distributed to all members in accordance with the current constitution • Change in corporate structure to a company limited by guarantee. This will go to a Special Resolution motion at the AGM 26/3/2015. Necessary documentation is being prepared by Rankin Ellison Solicitors and will be distributed to all members in accordance with the current constitution • Change of Financial Year from July – June to the calendar year. Our AGM needs to be held within 5 months of the end of the financial year. By changing the Financial Year to finish 31 December we are able to hold our AGM in conjunction with the National Titles. Boccia Australia AGM 26 March 2015 • This AGM will approve the financial reports from 1/7/2013 – 30/6/2014 Boccia Australia AGM 3 May 2015 • This AGM will approve the financial reports from 1/7/2014 – 31/12/2014 Boccia Australia AGM in conjunction with the 2016 National Titles • This AGM will approve the financial reports from 1/1/2015 – 31/12/2015 Commitment: • The Board must meet a minimum of 6 times per year. Meetings are scheduled for 6pm (QLD Time) the first Wednesday of the month: • Wednesday 1 April 2015 • AGM 0714-1214 Sunday 3 May 2015 • Wednesday 3 June 2015 • Wednesday 5 August 2015 • Wednesday 2 September 2015 • Wednesday 7 October 2015 • Wednesday 2 December 2015 • The Board will meet in person where the opportunity presents itself to be able to do so • The Board is required to complete Corporate Governance training – at this point it is anticipated that this will be Friday 27 March 2015 at Sydney Olympic Park.
