Wanted to share this note from the church we are a member of. You obviously dont need to be a presbyterian to help others. I am reminded of the time that a group of us Kiwanians and others helped rebuild a church over in Greensboro that was destroyed by fire. I could only offer my brawn at the time (I have no mechanical intellect beyond duct take, screwdrivers, and superglue). Heres the note and the contacts where you can help: Dear PCUSA Congregation Members, Florida Panhandle residents were deeply impacted by the April 2014 flood event. Many of those whose homes were damaged did not live in flood zones and had no flood insurance. The long work of disaster recovery has begun and our friends and neighbors need your help. There are many opportunities for volunteers to help with short-term projects, such as - Helping to repair the home of single mother who had no insurance - Conducting a fundraiser to help replace household items for a 94 year old - Building a set of bunk beds for an 84 year old caregiver of 2 small grandchildren - And many others There are longer-term opportunities, as well. If you are a retired construction worker, former project leader or social worker or have data entry or administrative skills, please consider volunteering to assist with any of the following: - Construction assessment and/or repairs - Scheduling volunteer teams to work on damaged homes - Disaster case management to help survivors navigate the recovery process - Data entry Whether you can commit a few hours or several days a week, your help is needed! To learn more, please call the long-term recovery contact in your county: Escambia: Greg Strader - 850-444-7136 Santa Rosa: Daniel Hahn - 850-393-9841 Okaloosa/Walton: Gabe Tischler - 850-443-2996 Jackson: Rodney Andreasen - 850-718-0007 Your time will not only help individual survivors of this disaster, but will help restore your neighborhoods and communities. Please consider giving a few hours of your time to help your community become whole again. For those interested in learning more, a Recovery Tools and Training workshop is being offered July 23 and 24. Please see the attached flyer for information. Thank you, and may God bless you.
