War widows today honoured their loved ones and held their 68th commemorative service at the State War Memorial in Kings Park. The State President of the War Widows’ Guild of Australia WA Inc, Mrs Sue Wilson, told the service that war widows had always reminded the public that they were the chief mourners of war dead. She quoted the guild’s national founder, Jessie Vasey, who said “We must never allow this country to forget the debt owed to its war dead. Not only do we remember, we must be seen to be remembering.” The Governor, Kerry Sanderson AO, State RSL President Graham Edwards, HMAS Stirling’s commanding officer, Capt. Angela Bond and State Warden Duncan Warren were amongst the VIPs attending the service. Salvation Army bugler George Poore played The Last Post.
