Waratah-Wynyard Acting Mayor Alwyn Friedersdorff yesterday announced that experienced local government practitioner John Martin would be appointed as Acting General Manager of Council from 05 May 2014. “John’s appointment follows the announcement earlier this month that current General Manager Greg Winton will not be seeking reappointment,” Cr Friedersdorff said. “John will work with Greg during his last week at Council to ensure there is time to get him up to speed on where Council is situated.” Mr Martin has worked as a senior advisor to the Department of Premier and Cabinet and has more than 34 years’ experience in the Tasmanian local government sector, including time as General Manager of Dorset Council. “Council is of the firm belief that John will offer the best range of skills to keep us on track while we finalise the recruitment of a permanent replacement General Manager,” Cr Friedersdorff said. “His experience means that Council can concentrate on getting the best candidate in place with confidence, and that it will be business as usual in the meantime.” Cr Friedersdorff said Council would initiate the recruitment process for a permanent replacement and make further announcements once this was completed.
