Warm greetings to all. I feel so honoured and blessed to accept such a high number of friendship requests. Life has taught me that if as friends you do not inspire or add value to one another - that friendship is worthless. Hopefully you know my course that is to raise awareness about this gigantic yet very silent killer that is Diabetes Mellitus or Ushukela in Zulu. Today diabetes affects 382 million people around the world. In Africa 15 million people have diabetes according to International Diabetes Federaton (IDF). It is estimated that 50% of people living with diabetes across the world do not know that they have diabetes. In Africa. the story is different as 82.5% of pe2010ople living with diabetes are not aware that they have the disease. In 2010, I established the Bongi Ngema-Zuma Foundation as a vehicle that I use to engage with fellow Africans in spreading awareness about diabetes. Our vision is: To see a South Africa where diabetes ceases to be a killer due to lack of awarenes.
