Warmest Chicago area temps in 15 days Fri! Readings have hit 47 ORD; 46 MDW-even a 50 at our WxBug station in Downers Grove. Check out Fridays preliminary highs. 60s as close as St. Louis; 70s into Kansas. Lower 48 snow pack down 1/3 in 5 days to 37% this AM (See the high temp maps below as well as the 24 hour temp change analyses). The warmth feels especially good given the fact March 2014 has opened coldest in 54 yrs; 17-deg below normal! Temps take a hit late tonite & turn wintry Sat. NNE winds off icy Mich are to take hold. (Ive posted a Saturday wind trajectory fcst off the Weather Services WRF model.) Warmings back Sun afternoon & Mon. Monday sees years warmest yet: 52! A 2nd cold punch hits by Tuesday afternoon & Wednesday. European Centers model spins up this storm. Biggest impact currently forecast to occur to the south-but northward jog could mean trouble.
