Warner Bros. Hits $3 Billion at International Box Office Variety - “Interstellar,” “Godzilla” and the final “Hobbit” film drove Warner Bros. Pictures past $3 billion at the international box office in 2014. It’s the second consecutive year that the studio has topped that mark and the seventh time it has exceeded $2 billion in foreign ticket sales. The results are a testament to the increasingly global nature of the business. For Warner Bros., burgeoning moviegoing populations in countries such as China are rescuing box office disappointments such as “Edge of Tomorrow” from disaster and are pushing films such as “Interstellar” into box office territory. Industry wide, the foreign box office is the bright spot in an otherwise forgettable year for film. Domestic revenues are down more than 5%, but foreign receipts are expected to grow by a few percentage points. Warner Bros. made the announcement as “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” a co-production with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, surpassed $400 million at the foreign box office this weekend.
