Warning Against those who Made Errors or Advising them??? Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) Member of the Body of Senior Scholars for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Member of the Permanent Committee of Muftees for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (This is the translation of the video at youtube/watch?v=5attU66IvdQ ) Moderator: So we go to the phone call of Abu Umar from Hafr ul-Baatin. Yes, Abu Umar... Questioner: As-Salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh Moderator: Wa alaykum salaam Questioner: We call Allah to witness that we love you, O our Shaykh. Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan: May Allah give you life. Moderator: Abu Umar... okay go ahead... Questioner: Shaykh, our question is, is it permissible to backbite and warn against some of the callers to Islam by saying they are people of desires, and that they are people of innovation, and then presenting some video clips of some of the scholars, and then saying, such-and-such scholar warns agains the daee (caller to Islam) so-and-so? And others besides him they say that he is a person of innovation and a person of desires? Is it permissible to circulate the video clips like this and distributing them such that they become widespread? Or is it obligatory to try to advise them (those who may have made the error) and directing them towards that which is better? Moderator: Thank you, O Abu Umar... go ahead, ya Shaykh... Shaykh Saalih Al-Fawzaan: That which you have mentioned at the end of your speech, it is what is obligatory (waajib). That is mutual advising, and clarifying their mistakes that they have to them so that perhaps they will retract those mistakes. And conveying what has been said about them to them so that they can realize it (if it is truly an error), then that is from advising (naseehah). And indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, The religion is An-Naseehah (sincerity and advising). The people said, To who, O Messenger of Allah? He replied, (sincerity) to Allah, and to His Book, and to His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims, and their common folk. You advise them with sincerity. In reference to speaking against people, and disparaging people, and backbiting, then this is not permissible - backbiting people. And no benefit will come as a result of doing that. All that will result from it is stirring up trouble, and causing hatred between the people, and no benefit will come as a result of it. Therefore, do not busy yourself with this - talking negatively about people, nor talking against the callers to Allah, even if they made errors. If you are able, you explain the mistakes to them, and seek to advise them - then this is what is obligatory - and if not, you shut up about them and you silence your tongues. Yes.
