Warning Long Post: I just read another article demanding that Walmart pay its workers $15/hr. The author said that the majority of the country agrees. Hmm... Well, I agree which is why I dont shop at Walmart. However A LOT of people do shop there. Walmart collects over $200 billion annually from the US. Which averages to about $1,000/yr from each US consumer. Clearly, people value access to a wide variety of cheap products more than a remedy for this social injustice. As a footnote, Ive read several times that if they can pay their CEO $18 million dollars, they can pay their employees a decent wage Umm... Lets run that one up the flagpole... If they paid the CEO $0 and instead distributed that money to its workers, that would result in an increase of the hourly wage by less than half a penny per hour. Fail. Bottom line: the question of whether Walmart SHOULD raise their labor rates is a question for the owners of Walmart which can be influenced by the market. Walmarts strong financials indicates their consumers are not dissuaded by their hourly wage rate. The government has no authority to be involved. theMattDshow
