*Warning: Long Status Ahead* On Facebook, Im bombarded with ads about how, he cheated because she was too fat and how I should buy some miracle pill so that this never happens to me. On Instagram, when trying to follow an account that posts cute kittens or something, I get ads for fit tea with before and after pictures 4 times a day. On Pinterest, Im presented with workouts to slim your belly/thighs/arms with the promise of looking perfect. Every other commercial on TV seems to be for a weight loss program. If Ive learned anything from the media around me, its that my New Years resolution should be to lose weight. Because I am a woman in America that wears over a size 12, I have to feel the need to take up less space, for the sake of others around me. Thats the message Im getting. How dare I be happy with myself. How dare I have any confidence. I wear plus-sizes, so I have to walk with my head down, apologizing to everyone who has to look at my ugly fatness. I say forget all that. Im usually pretty against New Years resolutions, but this year Im making one. My New Years resolution this year is to love myself more than I ever have. I dont have the highest self-esteem right now, and its something Ill have to work on. But I vow to be happier with who I am, how I look, and what I have than ever before. Some say new year, new me. I say, new year, same me. But happier about it. And thats a resolution I can keep.
