Warning Rant starting now----Really, really, struggling today with Andreas language arts class. The school changed curriculum this year to one based on Common Core. My child is frustrated and crying b/c she just cannot comprehend the questions. I spoke with her teacher and was told that all the students are struggling. two weeks in a row I had to sign tests from my formerly straight A student that are Ds and Fs. She does all her homework, reading assignments, 100 + on everything except these new assessment tests. here is an example: Read the following sentences The turning blades run a generator. This machine creates electrical energy. A generator is a machine that turns: a. blades on a turbine b wind power into pollution c electrical power into wind power d wind power into electrical power would you have gotten the right answer???? if the whole class is struggling dont you think you would think their is an issue? Others complain that the turbines hum noisily as they spin. Which word means almost the same as hum... Buzz ring sing whisper when did we start asking kids whats almost the same then tell them that what they choose was wrong? So frustrated.
