Warning: Ranting ahead. So an officer ended up giving me a wrong ID. One of the sleepless nights a few days ago I went for stroll. As I was walking back I saw a bit of crowd that I realized is a police checking point. Apparently police was suspecting something because they were checking all people on four streets leading to an intersection. I didnt want to look suspicious and turn around but before the thought ended a corporal approached me and a couple behind me asking us for IDs. Annoyed but understanding I gave it to him. He walks to officers who looks at them asks the corporal to bring him the couple. Without a lot of annoying details in the middle I took the ID relieved and walked away. I picked up my ID today to check something and I realize it is not mine! My mistake was not to check the ID I got back but I guess I was so keen on getting out of an unfavorable encounter. So I went to the police station to report my ID loss and Im worried because I dont know who has my ID... Anyhow the ranking officer at the station tells the best you can do is look for the officer. I tell him that checking point is only the at night. He replies then youll find him in one of the following locations as he gives me a list of checkpoints and stations. I told him but can I report it at least and start heading out looking for him. He goes: Dont you want to find your ID. I answer: Yes of course. He says: Then go first look for it. If you dont find him come back and file a missing ID report. And so in the middle of the day I started roaming the 5 locations he have me but unfortunately to no avail. I come back after driving for around 4 hrs in heat and traffic waiting for officers in each of the locations to turn up or go look for them where they work meanwhile trying to forget the pain in my neck I woke up with. At least the police station is empty and they dont look busy. I tell the officer I didnt find him I looked in all locations. Can I file that complaint now to ensure no one uses my ID? He responds: But it is 2:30 the employee who has the stamp has gone home! Come tomorrow morning or do it at any other station tomorrow but be sure to do it before 2. Me:!!!! A moment of disbelief then I say calmly: This is a police station and I have a missing ID. I want to report a missing ID so I make sure dont end up in trouble and I start issuing a new one. The officer looks at me and says sharply: Nothing is going to happen God willing just come tomorrow and file the report مفيش حاجه هتحصل ان شاء الله يا أستاذ أتفضل انت بس وتعالى يكره واعمل المحضر وكله هيبقى تمام. Realizing that Im wasting time and stretching my temper I leave. A total waste of time... Banging my head I should have looked at the ID. The officer was supposed to give me my ID but I still should have checked. Since Im booked till later in the day tomorrow Ive decided to go at the same checkpoint my ID got swapped at... And Im waiting for the officers to arrive! Well see what happens. Oh and I forgot to mention that I spent what was left of my day arguing with TE data on continuous service interruptions that havent stopped till now! Lovely huh?
