Warning a rant is about to happen - Its theatre related... Its sad to see that shows and musicals currently in the West End (newer and older) dont feel that they can hold a steady audiences without a Name or Celebrity. I know this is not always the case, for example Urinetown and Shakespeare In Love are both doing well without a big name in them. But for show revivals such as Evita at the moment, It just feels that they need a big name to succeed, almost as if the producers dont have enough hope or faith in the show otherwise. But even worse than that... Cats - saw the show when it was touring and loved it, and I was truly thrilled to hear it was getting a West End Revival because Sophia Ragavelas was utterly mesmerising and incredible!! Yet, shes not in the West End Revival and the role has been taken over, I do not know why she has left, contact ended? Personal reasons? Or whatever but it does not distract from the excuse that she has been replaced by a big name. And the big name has become the main advertising for the Cats Revival!! Why? Why could they not advertise that last time it was in the West End it had a 21 year run? Or it has an amazing score by an amazing composer??? This is the last section I promise... Obviously if that big name auditioned for the part along with others it is perfectly fine, we all know thats not that way but anyway, I also do not mind if they suit that part perfectly and can perform it the standard that will keep the show alive, then of course I cant quarrel with that, but if they are... Well... You get the point... I just do not agree that a big name should be cast when someone else could play it with better and with emotion and intention! Rant over... Dont worry I probably wont post for the next 6 months so youre safe!
