Warning about a scam: I had three phone calls today from a fast-talking guy with a strong foreign accent (from India?) Because I am deaf, I couldnt make out much in the first two calls except that he had my first name and he was calling about my computer, something about problems with my computer. I said I wasnt having any problems, and because I couldnt understand him, I hung up both times. Later, answering a different, better phone, I received a similar call, this time from a guy with a definite Indian accent who said he was Alex and he was calling from Windows about my computer. Again, I said I was deaf, and if he was calling from Windows, he would have my email address, so just send me an email about the problem. The phone went dead. So I never heard what Alex wanted me to do, and I dont have caller ID to find out where he was actually calling from, but I did some research, googling phone call from Alex from Windows and found the following info on the Federal Trade Commission Comsumer Support page about Tech Support Scams. Be forewarned. Lots of complaints on that page about calls from an Alex with an East Indian accent from consumers like this one: Computer Saavy | February 5, 2014 | Just got a call from Alex Jones at Microsoft that wanted to take care of messages that our computer was sending out. Of course, he wanted to take control of our computer. The phone number is 1-567-214-9999. Called ID indicated that the call was coming from Bellevue OH but he stated he was calling from California. He gave a return phone number of 1-818-572-1445. Caller had an East Indian accent. My husband kept him on the line for a bit to try and figure out what he was trying to do, but once the caller figured out that my husband was very computer saavy, the line went dead. Im posting this here because I cant figure out how to inform someone in the FTC about this scam.
