Warning for heavy rain and gale force winds A deepening area of low pressure will approach the UK from the South-West overnight on Sunday and in to Monday. The initial concern through this period is for heavy rainfall moving in across Southern and South-Western England, eventually moving up across Wales, The Midlands and in to parts of North-West England and Yorkshire. Intense rainfall rates are expected to give a risk of some localised flooding, particularly with high groundwater levels already in place across these areas. As we move through in to Monday morning, the low will continue to deepen, threatening a spell of gale or severe gale force winds across Southern counties of England and Wales. At present the exact track of the strongest winds continues to vary across each forecasting model run, but gusts of up to 80mph are possible across South-Western, Central Southern and South-Eastern England, with gusts of up to 70mph possible further North of these areas too. These wind speeds could be high enough to cause structural damage, uproot trees, and cause significant issues for high-sided vehicles. We would advise staying tuned to the forecast in the coming days as more information becomes available.
