Warning: graphic content Islamic State militants are reported to have launched a surprise attack on the Kurdish-held town of Gwer in Iraqi Kurdistan on January 10, 2015. Local news outlets Basnews and Naharnet are reporting the militants have kidnapped civilians. The footage also shows what appear to be deceased persons, although it is unclear whether they were fighters or civilians. The town of Gwer has served as a frontline between Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Islamic State fighters in Iraq. It is around 40 miles (65km) south Erbil (Arbil), of the capital of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
