(Warning long but is worth a few minutes of your time) So some may know this story but I have been thinking of my little brothers since Skye PoVey announced BYU finally gave him a scholarship(two years lettering and one starting at a foreign position he earned it) and all the training and time all of us devoted to sports we love as pointed out in a great post by Tycen PoVey. So the summer before I went to UNM I asked Brooke, the blondest of the PoVeys, to watch oil I had heating up for fries when a coached called to make sure I was training. I came back to a full on oil fire so I grabbed the pot and went to pour it outside, the dogs thought I was feeding them so I pulled it back inside quickly and it spilled all over my right hand and wrist. I ran stuck it under a faucet and was cool, Brooke comes in and insists I go to the ER, I refused to go until she pointed out my skin was coming off. 3rd deg burns, no more training for a month and this was July and I only had a month to camp, devastated was an understatement. I was now forced to lay on the couch every day with Tycen and Skye in 100 deg weather and no air conditioning. We had a very complex game but basically consisted of switching between the Box, MTV and VH1 for Brittany Spears, Christina Agulara and Jennifer Love Hewitt videos. Although it was great there was one occurrence that finally uplifted my spirits enough to have a positive outlook on the shitty situation. Me and my two bros were sitting on the porch, which I would have been out or at the gym without the burn, just BSing one afternoon. I all of a sudden noticed a strange ball rolling down the street, it was smaller than a basketball and rolling on a flat surface straight down our rode. As it got closer I pointed it out, someone noticed it was a gerbil in a ball just cruising. None of us said anything, stunned, watched it go down the street and turn the corner. After the shock and that just happened moment we all busted up laughing. I laugh thinking about it still and even though I was behind at the beginning of camp that fall it was all worth it to share that moment with those two.
